Smoothie Bowls Fun or Faff?

Healthy eating is always so much easier when your breakfast looks so pretty. Recently you would have noticed that the majority of healthy/hipster/cool instagrams have featured the smoothie bowl. The delicious, pretty, healthy little number is definitely a contender to rake in the likes.

But, how easy is it to make?

It looks pretty simple right? Handful of fruits, almond milk and then some toppings? Well you're not entirely wrong...

This morning I decided to make my first ever smoothie bowl. I gathered my ingredients, my trusty nutri bullet and started my quest for healthy living and instagram likes.

The base of my smoothie bowl I used: 1 frozen Bananas

1/2 punnet raspberries

5 watermelon cubes

1/3 frozen tropical fruits

1/3 frozen strawberry banana mix.

200ml Almond milk

Optional: splash of orange juice in case the mixture is too thick.

Toppings: raspberries, watermelon, chia seeds, flax seeds.

My favourite part was definitely adding the topping I channelled my inner cool girl and I was transported all the way to a hip cafe in Brooklyn.

Base of smoothie bowl check. Toppings check. Now time to get that insta worthy picture. After about ten attempts (but for the gram I'll pretend I got it first try) I finally get the right picture, video on Kira kira + and a boomer rang with my spoon. The smoothie bowl was delicious, it was summery and light (a huge contrast to the snow falling outside my window) but was it worth it? Probably not.

Don't get me wrong it's pretty, tasty and gave me a good motivation to eat healthy for the day. However, it was time consuming, I did get bored half way through and if I don't get some insta recognition I wont be happy.

Final verdict: Although smoothie bowls are fun, they are so time consuming. They are certainly not the breakfast that I would have on a work day (partially due to the fact that I love my bed too much to part with it!) But for a weekend treat? Definitely

Which still leaves me on my quest to find a quick, healthy and yummy breakfast that allows me to feel as good as it looks.
